LAYING THE FOUNDATION
In the spring of 2021, the client company approached Townsend Search Group for assistance with a search for a Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Director.
The company was in the midst of a rapid period of growth, adding 34 divisions in 18 months. To support this expansion, it would need to substantially bolster its in-house M&A expertise over a relatively short period. This position represented their first hire focused on M&A deal execution.

Located in a mid-size city, our client faced a limited supply of local prospects with investment banking or corporate finance backgrounds. Along with strong technical knowledge, the right candidate would need to fit within the culture that the company was creating.
As a result, we knew we would need to tell a compelling story. Townsend underwent a comprehensive discovery process to develop a broad understanding of the background, goals and vision of the business to ensure we were highlighting its unique strengths.
With a keen awareness of the blend of skills and experience the ideal candidate would bring, we used our in-depth knowledge of the M&A landscape to build a pool that reflected the client’s specific needs.

After combing the market and running a thorough search process, Townsend identified and placed a new M&A Director within 62 days.
Based on this success, we went on to play an instrumental role in helping the business fill seven additional positions:
- M&A Associate
- Manager of M&A
- Three Regional Controllers
- Finance Manager
- Business Data Analyst
In each case, we listened closely to the company’s needs to build a tailored candidate profile. We were then able to present a qualified slate of prospects within three to four weeks.
With eight new hires secured, Townsend is now focused on two currently active searches (as of February 2023).
